Freestyle

What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?

WP: Hyrax

I write poems out of the blue. It usually starts with writing a poem without knowing where it’s going. No theme, just a blank page and whatever shows up.

I like freestyling poetry because it feels like a conversation with myself. One thought leads to another, sometimes making sense, sometimes not. I don’t stop to correct it or make it perfect. I just keep writing. And sometimes, by the time I reach the end, I’ve written something I didn’t even know I was thinking about. Maybe that’s the beauty of spontaneity—you start without a destination and somehow still arrive somewhere.

Now, here’s a freestyle. It doesn’t have a title yet. Maybe you could help me find one? Goodnight.

Title: ?

Tell the gatekeepers when you arrive,
The night will be late and so will the moon.
Anyhow, try to be there.
Tell me, jackrabbit or hyrax, what they are,
Neither a rabbit nor an elephant.
I doubt they would care.

Show people how much you love them,
In deeds, in words, in things, and maybe gifts.
But let love be enough to share.
