Birds tweeting, squirrels foraging, and Berkeley’s rolling, beautiful landscapes, combined with the scent of fresh grass—possibly mint—remind me of home. The roadside is covered with green grass, and up the steps, wild turkeys pick at the ground for worms. I saw a tiny bird circling the base of a tree, which looked more like a dance. The trees on the hills appear ancient and majestic; I also noticed some logging activities. It wasn’t my day, as I saw no deer or bobcats. The forest remains calm and undisturbed. I had to pause and breathe in deeply—to breathe in life and live.
The clouds are blue and magical. The sunlight is gentle. Cool air brushes against my face. Flock of birds call to one another as they fly away. The large clouds swallow them in their retreat. A pleasant evening is approaching, and I’ve become part of this joyful frenzy! The weather here changes suddenly; I remind myself to always bring a sweater.
Berkeley and Ovim share many similarities. First, they are hilly and full of wildlife. Both enjoy abundant sunlight but have no snow. I realize that Berkeley and California, in general, will always be special to me. Berkeley reminds me of home.
