Nigeria

If you had a free round-trip ticket to anywhere, where would you go?

Nigeria

That’s easy. I’d go home to Nigeria. It’s been a while since I traveled home. I’ll probably do some things I’ve never done before in Nigeria, like touring important landmarks across West Africa, from Burkina Faso to Liberia and from Nigeria to Senegal. Anyway, I wrote a poem this evening called “The Sun Is Mine.” Good night, guys.

The Sun is Mine

So, I stood under the tree, away from the heat of the blazing noon sun. I stood, pulsing like a heartbeat and pausing for the winds to wake and drive the heat away. I stayed. I halted for the last drop of sweat to fall, so I could resume my walk and assure myself that the sweat and the heat have nothing in common. I stayed.

The glittering sweat slowly disappeared in the wind as I stood under the tree. My glow, along with the glittering sweat, dried, and that’s when I realized I’m the Sun, and heat is my element. I’m the Sun, and the Sun is me. The Sun is my kinfolk! So I should never hide my light from the sun.
