What are some life hacks that you practice?

I don’t know if I would call them life hacks, but over time, I’ve adopted a few habits that make life easier, more meaningful, and sometimes more enjoyable. Some are learned from experience, while others have become part of my daily routine. Here are eight that come to mind.
1. Drink plenty of water.
This is a non-negotiable rule, especially when living in places like Nigeria, California, and New Mexico, where the summer heat can be intense. I drink plenty of water and try not to wait until I feel thirsty. Staying hydrated is a simple habit that makes a noticeable difference.
2. Take a break from your phone and social media.
Sometimes the best thing I can do for myself is to disconnect—no phone, no laptop, no social media, no news, and definitely no unnecessary notifications. I enjoy having time to think, take a walk, sit quietly, or do nothing. The world can wait a little.
3. Read at least a page every day.
As a researcher, I find that reading keeps my mind active. It doesn’t always have to be an academic book or something related to my work. Sometimes a page of a magazine, a novel, or something completely unrelated to my research is enough to get my mind moving.
4. Learn to cook your own meals.
I’m a foodie, and I especially enjoy traditional Igbo dishes like egusi, ogbono, ede, and onugbu. Cooking at home allows me to eat what I want, try new recipes, and appreciate the culture behind my food. Plus, eating out all the time can get pretty expensive and unhealthy!
5. Make time for yourself without feeling guilty.
I’ve learned that working hard doesn’t mean sacrificing every moment of my day. Sometimes I sleep, read, spend time with friends, take walks, or just enjoy the beauty around me. Rest isn’t something I should have to earn after pushing myself too hard. It’s simply part of living.
6. Keep a journal and write things down.
I enjoy journaling and writing poems, sometimes without knowing where the words will lead me. Writing helps me reflect, understand myself, and capture little thoughts and experiences that might otherwise fade away. I don’t always need a big idea to start writing. Sometimes, a blank page is enough.
7. Stay close to good people.
I believe in staying connected with family and good friends, valuing kind people, and making space for relationships that foster growth. A thoughtful message, a chat, or just checking in on someone can make a big difference. I also keep in mind that respect and kindness should be mutual.
8. Travel light and stay curious.
I love traveling, discovering new places, meeting people, and experiencing different cultures. One thing I try to do is stay open to unexpected experiences. Sometimes a place becomes memorable not because of its famous attractions but because of a stranger’s kindness, a beautiful sunset, or a conversation I wasn’t expecting.
Finally, make time to exercise, sleep, and most importantly, pray, read the word of God, and stay spiritually, mentally, and physically strong.
School started last week so that I might be taking some breaks from blogging.
