Do you believe in karma?

I believe that the good or bad we put out comes back, but not always in a dramatic, movie-like way where someone does something terrible on Monday and gets punished by Friday. Sometimes, karma is simply the energy we put into the world coming back to us in unexpected ways.
Sometimes we see some people being blessed exceptionally, and we never understand why.
Growing up in Nigeria, I learned early on that you don’t always know who will be important in your journey. A teacher who encourages you, someone who helps you pay for something when you’re short, or even a stranger who shows you kindness can leave a lasting impression. Years later, after moving to the U.S. for graduate school, I’ve experienced moments where people I barely knew opened a door, shared an opportunity, answered a question, or simply believed in me when I needed it most. Sometimes I wonder if those moments are little pieces of kindness returning from somewhere else.
That’s why I try to help others whenever I can, especially students who remind me of my younger self. I don’t expect anything in return. Maybe that’s the point. Karma, to me, isn’t about revenge or keeping score. It’s about what we leave behind as we go through life. Do good when you can, be kind when you can, and keep moving forward. May the echoes of our good deeds reverberate back to us somehow. Goodnight.
