Traveling with Sunsets

What’s your biggest dream?

WP

My biggest dream is simple enough to fit inside a sentence, yet vast enough to outlive me: to travel the world and watch the sun set in every climate and nation.

I don’t want to collect countries like stamps, but to gather evenings. To learn how the same sun speaks different languages as it leaves the sky. Somewhere it will kiss the Atlantic with the patience of an elder; somewhere else it will disappear behind mountains that have memorized centuries of silence. In deserts, on islands, across forests and crowded cities, I want to witness that quiet covenant between light and darkness. I’d love to see the length and breadth of the African continent first. If the Maasai leap, I’ll join them. If the lions roar, I’ll mimic and watch the sun rise out of the depths of the mountains in Africa.

Maybe then I’ll understand what the sun has always known—that borders belong to maps, not to sunsets. And that every evening, no matter where we are, the earth rehearses the same beautiful goodbye, just with a different accent. That sunset is only the start of something new and beautiful.
