Reflection: Be Happy

Happiness is whatever you make of it. It’s as free as the air we breathe and the light we see.

A Goat’s Stubborn Story

A friend sent the picture above on WhatsApp. I was amused by the sight of goats pulling a wagon. Out of all quadruplets, stubborn goats were chosen to pull a cart. It seems more like a fairy tale. Well, my smiles gradually turned to thought when I realized that the goats were tied up. So, neither of them could move away from the other without pulling it along. On a lighter note, those kids are being transported by goats to a destination only known to the goats. Haha.

As mentioned earlier, goats are naturally stubborn. Growing up, I remember my granny’s favorite goat. He was the leader of his group and knew how to get his way. Once, I was asked to herd him into the pen, and although he followed, it took a long time to get him inside. He would stop to investigate or nibble on a plant, watch the hawks soaring in the sky, and even try to pull me in his direction or nudge me with his curved horns. There was a time when he nearly kicked over my granny’s pot of soup, which was not even close to his pen. The evening breeze would normally cool the sizzling pot when it was taken down from the stove. When the soup cooled, it would be taken into the kitchen. Our goat, though on a leash, strayed from the path and headed straight for the pot. Luckily, only a little soup spilled. Whatever happened that day, the truth is, the pot was not in his way; he was just trying to act tough. Yeah, that’s how stubborn a goat can be.

Be Happy

The picture above shows simplicity and contentment, which are truly qualities of happy people. I have long understood that real happiness is innate. It’s not dependent on other people’s actions, thoughts, or behaviors. Stay happy always; it’s the best way to live longer.
