California

Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.

California is just what I imagined. The clean streets, diverse people, and rolling hills embody nature, all set in an inspiring school environment lined with cheerful trees. Where there are trees, you can often see birds that add their melodic sounds to the view. I can hear them caw-caw every morning from my window. Beauty is also found in the diversity. Students from many nationalities attend this school. There’s a rich mix of Africans, Asians, Europeans, and Americans calling UC Berkeley home. I’ve met kind and wonderful people who will always hold a special place in my heart. My professors are more than just teachers; they’re friends, which makes learning much easier.

I’m impressed by many magnificent buildings, especially the towering stadium near the architectural marvel called the International House. The compassionate Anthropology museums and the Folklore Archive, one of a kind in the nation, are excellent resources. When you’re at UC Berkeley, you don’t just feel smart—you become smart! There’s a lot to read and learn. Much more is happening. I learned that there are 22 libraries and mini-libraries spread across campus. I can see why the school is top-ranked in America.

This is the farthest I’ve been from home.
