What brings you peace?
Well, that’s a big question. For me, peace is one of the greatest virtues anyone would have. So in this prompt, I’ll use the words comfort, relaxation, happiness, and peace interchangeably. I’ll try to list the activities that bring me all these virtues.
Writing, Reading, and Reflection: I get peace from writing my thoughts and reflecting on my daily actions. Sometimes I put my electronic gadgets away for weeks or at certain times of the day. It’s not about avoiding human contact but reducing my usage and dependence on technology. It’s easy to get triggered and distracted watching horrible news. There are natural disasters and wars. There are a lot of injustices too. Cutting down my phone time and writing my thoughts helps me reorganize my thinking and mindset from being polluted by outside sources.
Gardens and Green Spaces: I also like spending time in natural spaces. I get this unexplainable feeling when I’m in the open field. I get recharged in nature. Hence, a simple walk through a park or garden is helpful to my mood and health. I know this because I feel different when hanging out in the garden. Each time it feels foggy in my head, I take a walk. I usually return with a clear and sound mind. Sometimes I love interacting with animals, and other times it’s just sheer fun observing plants growing in the garden.
Godliness and Lifestyle: I’m a religious person. As a Christian, who grew up in a Sunday school, I can say that my faith primarily influenced my lifestyle. I was taught to be grateful, to be responsible, and to be self-disciplined. Also, I learned to respect and accept other people’s choices. I avoid comparing myself with others and hanging out with negative, and controlling people. Whatever threatens my happiness and comfort is generally avoided. So it’s much easier to avert quarrels or fights with such a mindset. I try to keep positivity and to see the good in everything.
Other things bring me peace of mind as well. Talking to family members like my mom and siblings and learning about their happiness makes me joyful. True friends who share and care are also helpful. I know friends who just speaking to them makes me feel awesome. Exercising is also essential. Generally, peace of mind is the real deal that everybody should aspire to because it helps promote good mental health, general well-being, and success.
