A Birthday Wish and Turbulent Times

Dreams Come True

One of my wishes last year was to travel abroad for my graduate degree. God listened, and my wish and prayers were answered. Miracles still happen – we just have to believe and work hard. Please don’t give up on those dreams. It might take a while but it will come true and it will be beautiful, trust me.

I realized that I’ve been blessed. I received help in many ways. I even joke that Providence blessed San Francisco with rain before my arrival during the hot days of September. For all the blessings and help, I’m exceedingly grateful.

Turbulent Times & Birthday Wishes

We live in turbulent times, you will agree. It’s hard to believe that in this age that nations would be hurling bombs at each other. Even so-called modern and sophisticated societies are yet to settle issues in civilized manners. What era are we again, Stone Age? People still live with an awful and barbaric mentality. Horrible things go on, out there. The world is reeling from one disaster to another. Whole cities lay in ruins in Ukraine, injustice and racial discrimination in America, democracies toppled in West Africa, modern-day slavery in the Middle East, human rights abuses in China, and South East Asia, and religious intolerance in India, are all recent events. The list goes even further. I note that these are man-made disasters however and completely avoidable and unnecessary. One might think that as advances are made technologically, we would have less to worry about. I shrug thinking about it all: Man had discovered a lot of things, conquered the oceans, explored space, and flew airplanes but still had no clue on how to live peaceably with one another.

However, let’s not dwell on negativity on this special day. This year, I wish for a just and peaceful world. Changes won’t happen immediately, but gradually. One that people can be whatever they wish to be without any form of prejudice, and one that love for each other supersedes who’s wrong or right. There’s a personal wish too. Happy birthday to me and all of August born.
