Dear Starry Night

Dear starry night,

This quiet and lonely friend of mine
Here comes once more my fable
Passed to me by a surge of the wind
And the waves of the breezy ocean

The stars whisper;

Dream one more time, dear shepherd
Consider the lilies that grow by the roadside
For they care only for the light and the wild,
Eat the cheese from the pleasant milkmaid
Loosen up and enjoy the fair evening wind
Let the radio singing of the countryside
Save you from this unnatural world

So dear starry night,
One of flickering light
And unfamiliar sight
Stay as my playmate,
Listen to my stories I restrain myself with
Be a companion I always return to
When each night I find my weary path
Lead to a field where the stars glitter above
