Lullaby: Night Rain

Light rain, mild breeze, magnificent shower, Like the faint drums that usher in the noble, Faded lightning, a plethora of tiny drops Those that drench the backyard every night

This night rain flatter my townShe sneaked up our curtainsAnd let her waves wrestle with themThe breeze blew out the candlelightsWhen the thunder howl in his deep voiceEach time the lightning appearsBe sure to wait for some rumblingYet the downpour clapping outsideJust by the dark and slippery balconyTries to let the pata-pata cover all sound… Continue reading First Night Rain

Night rain

Now it rains heavily with thunder, And with cold, her breezy messenger, I watch the rain fall from my window, Fast, soft drops crash into glass panes This heavy rain ploughed, and sow, Her lullabic seeds across my land, Soft, sweet breezes reign with her Battling a stranger for his umbrella, In pitch darkness cover,… Continue reading Night rain

Night rains

Darkened clouds bark with dogs When surging winds sweep through The hamlet and nearby forest Flying rain drops turn deep bass Blowing out the sticky candle light, Wrestling with tree branches, shaking window frames Twisting away, undressing tied curtains As the rain drops play on the glass Ghostly lightning snap across the skies Creating alien… Continue reading Night rains

Night Rain

The night rain came swift with the surging wind, These two brothers raced through cold and cloud, Then the town center was left deserted, the road lonely But in the midst of it all, the neighborhood slept happy.

The clouds gather
And in her wake
The evening turned black
Clouds gather above the sky
As light showers try to descend,
The showers fall on the clay
As beautiful humid smell arise

The clouds gather
Above the little town
She wakes the lightning
And all evening
The lightning took shots
Of the warm wetlands
Sending a cold surge of air
Flinging stray papers and silt
And making dresses dance
But all men must retire
For fear of the coming storm
And the asunder it brings

“Oh goodness it rains!
The windows clap about
And the curtains dance
To the wooing songs
Of the sweet airy Night”

And I can feel the rain drops through the window
And the smell of the new rain upon the dusty roof
The curtains blow up and down my weary face
All is cold, all is warm, all is truly entertaining
Oh, lullaby; mother Natures’ drum keep playing…

What sweet sleep the shepherd observes
For the Days toil has come and gone
And I upon my bed listens to a song
Which no voice or choir can ever sing

But to my bed sitted by the window
I lay bare-chested tossing about
From one end of this cold bed
To the other side by the window
On this beautiful rainy night
One of blessed airs and wild winds
Tuning in high pitches, sweet rendition;
A lullaby I can not find elsewhere…

I must say a good night to you all,
Oke Iroegbu

The nights cloud is ripe
Full of Heavens dew to give
Rain drops on our faces to wipe
And to our beds warmth we cleave

Thundering, Heavens clap
In might and strange call
We tremble, we watch
The crystal drops fall
Freezing winds flush about
The rain falls, uncaring The Heavens light, thunders nephew
Show his face, now and then
Sending chills down our spines
Everyone clasping their cheeks
Some minding not the dripping saliva
All waiting and watching With some enjoying the cold
Dreading the fearsome duo; the lightning and his
nephew

A night rain

Oh it rains again The clouds stomach rumbles This quiet evening of soft breezes Strong bashing up the pan At least the pan has found a companion tonight And up these village hills I can hear the swooshing trees Pray for some mercy When will the pan drummers ever stop? And the happy frog choir?… Continue reading A night rain
