This morning, I noticed a mushroom-shaped cloud in the sky. Unlike my impatient, fluffy friends who won’t wait for the camera, I am thankful that the clouds have a sense of humor.
I do wonder if cloud formations reveal any significant information. Maybe not. However, I know that New Mexico is home to the United States’ first nuclear testing site, and perhaps the mushroom cloud in the image above is a ghost. Cloudy patterns can reveal information, such as the straight lines left by jets or spacecraft.

Not every day do we see a mushroom cloud looming in the sky, a striking reminder of history. Perhaps, as a folklorist, this sight reminds humans to strive for improvement and a better future. If we learn from history, it can teach us valuable lessons.
It’s summertime! I hope everyone has a bright and sunny June!
